May Meeting Info and Location.

The Thomas Beaver Free Library

 317 Ferry Street in Danville.

We will be meeting on the second floor of the library in the “Tutoring Room.” Registration will begin at 4:30 pm. Please plan to arrive early, so we can begin at exactly at 4:45 pm.

Parking is available at the meters on Ferry Street. (Our understanding is that the meters need not be “plugged” after 4:30 pm, because the meter maid’s day ends at that time.)

Special Sigma Grant for teachers in our CSIU area

Sigma’s Educational Grant Applications were distributed the week of  September 7th. Currently, applications will be available to educators in the following school districts: Selinsgrove Area, Shikellamy, Milton Area, Line Mountain, Warrior Run, Danville Area, and Mount Carmel Area.

Continuation of Reading Pals

The Executive Committee will be recommending that the Chapter once again participate in a Reading Pals Program, connecting us with a local teacher and class of elementary age students. The proposal will come to the Chapter for a vote in October, since the program requires some funding.

Reading and Writing Pals Project

We have designated about 15 minutes of May’s meeting for the next phrase in our Reading & Writing Pals

Project: book wrapping. Carol Kruskie and Beth Ann Reed will be at the meeting with the books we are gifting our Kindergarten Pals. If you have Scotch tape, scissors, and/or wrapping paper, bring them along to the meeting.

Deb Bernhisel is bringing some extra, but the more we have of all three items, the faster the wrapping. Beth’s students are really looking forward to hearing from their Sigma Pals once again.

At our December meeting Chapter President Liz Brewer introduced a classroom/chapter partnership project that another Delta Kappa Gamma chapter had coordinated with a classroom of students, thinking this would be a good project for Sigma Chapter. Jennifer Vovakes showed interest in the program’s possibilities, and she and Deborah Bernhisel have been working out the details for a Sigma Chapter version of the partnership. They have been streamlining the program, which would allow Sigma Chapter to partner with Jennifer’s 19 Kindergarten students. If this year’s pilot is successful, we will be able to offer the program again in 2026. They are hoping that 19 Sigma members will be willing and/or able to participate in the pilot, matching Jennifer’s students one-to-one. The details of the project will be shared prior to the March Meeting, and a portion of our March Meeting will be dedicated to explaining the project as Jennifer and Deborah envision it, answering questions, and gathering volunteers. Those interested in participating in the project, but unable to attend the March Meeting, should contact Deborah or Jennifer before March 1st.
