Upcoming Dues Changes

(PSO is Pennsylvania State Organization.)

In March we will need to vote on the amount of dues necessary to renew individual memberships in Sigma Chapter and its two governing organizations. The Executive Committee has discussed three possible options for the chapter membership to consider:

  • Increase membership dues for 2027-2028 to $72 to reflect the $10 PSO increase approved at the 2026 PSO Convention.
  • Add an additional $3 to the dues in 2027-2028 to help cover Sigma Chapter expenses in addition to the $10 PSO increase, raising dues to $75.
  • Increase dues to $80 for 2027-2028 in honor of Sigma Chapter’s 80th Sigma was chartered on November 1, 1947.

Each option has merit, but only our members can determine which option best serves Sigma Chapter’s current needs. It should also be noted that the PSO dues increase will also affect Reserved Member dues and Collegiate member dues. How can we best handle this mandated change? Is there an option the Executive Committee has not considered? What choice will best serve our chapter?

Convention Info

State Convention: The 2027 PSO Convention will take place at Kalahari Resort & Convention Center June 8-11. The 2028 PSO Convention will be held in Grantville.

DKG International Convention: The 2028 International Convention will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, July 4-8, 2028.

Special Sigma Grant for teachers in our CSIU area

Sigma’s Educational Grant Applications were distributed the week of  September 7th. Currently, applications will be available to educators in the following school districts: Selinsgrove Area, Shikellamy, Milton Area, Line Mountain, Warrior Run, Danville Area, and Mount Carmel Area.

This will be the 3rd year we are continuing with this project.

 

Reading and Writing Pals Project

Reading & Writing Pals will continue in 2027.

It was a second successful year.

At our December meeting Chapter President Liz Brewer introduced a classroom/chapter partnership project that another Delta Kappa Gamma chapter had coordinated with a classroom of students, thinking this would be a good project for Sigma Chapter. Jennifer Vovakes showed interest in the program’s possibilities, and she and Deborah Bernhisel have been working out the details for a Sigma Chapter version of the partnership.
